Meet the New Dragon

Last month, you may have noticed a new addition to the children's room ceiling. He's a seven foot long reading dragon constructed by  two of the library's fantastic Junior Librarians, Ila and Megan and Alyssa Nedbal (Youth Services).

The new dragon is made out of many pieces of colored construction paper and glitter fabric. He is suspended from the ceiling above the children's room and would love for you to come say hello!

Stay tuned to our blog and the Plum Lake Library because coming very soon, you'll have a chance to help name our dragon!

Superhero Training Academy

February 8, 2014 marked the Plum Lake Library's first ever Superhero Training Academy. Our Superheroes in training were great listeners to Superhero stories, went on fantastic secret missions, showed off their Superhero poses, and made Superhero masks.

Each Superhero in attendance got one checklist, and when they finished that list of super activities, they were presented with their official superhero ID card (to show they passed our academy) and a goodie bag filled with Superhero themed snacks and handouts.

Above, our Superheroes in Training are Super Listeners. Under the watchful eye of our new children's section dragon, Junior Librarians (from left) Tanner, Nick, Megan, and Ila, and Alyssa (Youth Services) read the first story.

Our Superheroes make a circle and participate in a rhyming activity.

Here, a few participants have descended to the Ice Cave of the Library's basement and are maneuvering through the green kryptonite balloons as one of their challenges.

Superhero Training Academy Day was a super success! Thank you to all of our young Superheroes who attended and to our volunteers and employees who made this day possible.

A special thank you to Ida Nemec for the photos.
